Find the exact color in any picture
Designers often need to match a color from a logo, a product photo or a screenshot. Guessing by eye rarely works, because small differences in shade are easy to miss. This image color picker reads the exact color value of the pixel you click and gives you the code in HEX, RGB and HSL formats, ready to paste into a design tool or CSS file.
How to pick a color from an image
- Choose an image from your device, such as a logo, photo or screenshot.
- Click or tap the spot whose color you want. The swatch and codes update instantly.
- Click Copy HEX or Copy RGB to copy the code.
- Below the picker, see the main colors found in the image, and click one to select it.
HEX, RGB and HSL explained
- HEX such as
#4F46E5writes the red, green and blue values in hexadecimal (00 to FF). It is the most common format in web design. - RGB such as
rgb(79, 70, 229)gives the same three values as normal numbers from 0 to 255. - HSL such as
hsl(243, 75%, 59%)describes the hue (color angle on a color wheel), saturation (strength) and lightness. It is easiest for making lighter or darker versions of a color.
How the main colors are found
The tool samples up to about 40,000 pixels, groups very similar colors together and counts how often each group appears. It then shows the average color of the eight largest groups. This is a quick way to build a color palette that matches a brand photo or a product image.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the color slightly different from what I expected?
Photos contain noise and shading, so neighbouring pixels can differ. Try clicking a few points in a flat area, or use the main colors list, which averages similar pixels.
Does it work with transparent PNG images?
Yes. Fully transparent pixels are ignored when finding the main colors.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The picture is read on a canvas inside your browser.
