Fair random numbers in one click

Random numbers are useful far more often than you might think: picking a lucky-draw winner, choosing a student to answer, assigning roll numbers, creating test data, playing board games without dice, deciding who goes first, or sampling items for quality checks. This generator picks numbers in any range you choose, with or without repeats, and is genuinely fair: every number has exactly the same chance.

How to use the generator

  1. Enter the smallest and largest number allowed. Both ends are included.
  2. Choose how many numbers you need.
  3. Tick No repeats if every number must be different, for example when drawing several winners or making a lottery ticket.
  4. Click Generate. Use the quick buttons to roll dice or toss a coin.

How the randomness works

Many simple generators use JavaScript's Math.random(), which is fast but predictable and not designed for fairness-critical uses. This tool uses crypto.getRandomValues(), the cryptographically secure random number generator built into your browser and operating system. It also uses "rejection sampling", which throws away the rare values that would make some numbers slightly more likely than others, a subtle problem known as modulo bias.

Examples

Probability facts

With two dice, 7 is the most likely total (6 out of 36 combinations, about 16.7%), while 2 and 12 are the least likely (1 in 36 each). A fair coin has a 50% chance of heads on every toss, no matter what came before; a run of five heads does not make tails "due".

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this for an official draw?

The numbers are fair, but official lotteries and contests may require an audited process. Record your screen or use a witness for transparency.

Can I pick random names instead of numbers?

Yes, use the List Randomizer to pick winners or make teams from a list of names.

Can the range include negative numbers?

Yes. For example, minimum −10 and maximum 10 works.
