Flip your text upside down
Upside down text is a fun way to stand out in a chat, a social media bio, a comment or a birthday wish. It looks as if the words were rotated 180 degrees, but it is actually made of ordinary Unicode characters that happen to look like upside down letters, such as "ɐ" for "a" and "ʇ" for "t". Because they are real characters, you can copy and paste them almost anywhere.
How to flip text
- Type your message in the top box.
- Keep Reverse order ticked so the text reads correctly when the screen is turned around. Untick it to flip each letter but keep the original order.
- Click Copy and paste it into WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, X, Discord or any other app.
How it works
Unicode, the standard that defines every character on computers and phones, includes letters from the International Phonetic Alphabet, mathematics and other scripts. Many of them look like rotated Latin letters. The tool swaps each letter for its upside down look-alike and then reverses the order of the characters, which together create the rotated effect.
| Normal | a b c d e f g h t y |
|---|---|
| Upside down | ɐ q ɔ p ǝ ɟ ƃ ɥ ʇ ʎ |
Things to know
- Accessibility: screen readers cannot read flipped text as words, so do not use it for important information.
- Search: flipped words are not found by search, so avoid it in names or product titles you want people to find.
- Display: a few capital letters use rare characters that may show as boxes on very old phones.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work with Hindi or Marathi?
No. There are no upside down look-alike characters for Indian scripts, so those letters are left as they are.
Can I turn the text back to normal?
Paste the flipped text into the box with "Reverse order" ticked; most letters flip back to their normal form.
Are there other text styles?
Yes. Try Cursive Text or Old English Text.
