Convert images between popular formats

Different websites and programs accept different image formats. Some upload forms only take JPG, many design apps prefer PNG, and modern websites use WebP to load faster. This converter opens your image and saves it in the format you need, without installing software.

How to convert an image

  1. Choose the picture you want to convert.
  2. Select the new format: JPG, PNG or WebP.
  3. If you convert to JPG, choose a background color for transparent areas. White is the usual choice.
  4. Click Convert & download. The new file is saved with the same name and a new extension.

Common conversions include WebP to JPG (when an image downloaded from a website will not open in an older program), PNG to JPG (to shrink a large screenshot) and JPG to PNG (when a design tool needs PNG).

About HEIC photos from iPhone

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. Only Safari can open HEIC files directly. If your browser cannot open the file, change the iPhone camera setting to "Most Compatible" or share the photo, which converts it to JPG automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting reduce quality?

Converting to PNG keeps every pixel exactly. Converting to JPG or WebP uses 92 percent quality, which looks the same to the eye in almost all cases.

Can I convert an SVG to PNG?

Yes. SVG files are drawn at their own size and then saved as PNG. If the SVG has no size set, it is drawn at a default size.

Are my files private?

Yes. Conversion happens in your browser using the canvas feature, and the file never leaves your device.
